In honor of the first day of school here in Ames, Iowa, here is the checklist I posted last year at this time. Hmmm… I wonder if schools have made any improvements on this list over the past year?
It’s the first day of school (again)!

This list is a perfect match for us with one exception… We don’t have a check mark in item number 1.
My supe will enjoy your list! So will our Information Services person.
Great checklist. District leaders preach “Technology, Technology, Technology”, yet they have no clue as to the web 2.0 tools that can be used in the classroom for absolutely free.
Even better to try an cram the rest in during 4 days of in-service. Hmmm, do you think you can change everything you do in the next few hours, cause that would be great. Thanks
Thanks for the pick me up.

Ken, this is perhaps the favorite (and funniest) thing I’ve ever heard anyone say about “sit and get” staff development. Thanks for sharing!
Well there goes my buzz.
Ugh, so true! Where I work, #4 is my personal pet peeve. I’ve had problems that I report over and over and over and they never get fixed.
oh dear.
I have an idea. What if we all went in to our schools assuming that there were checks next to everything and looking for them.
I’m thinking we may find that some is available if we expect it to be there…can’t hurt, in any case!
I agree with Joel. Teachers return tomorrow in my district and we are in the process of asbestos abatement. I was in my room today, my printer, my computer and my phone are now where to be seen – I am sure were are starting off slowly!
My school for one has definetly made technology available to us students over the past couple of years, which makes sense as we are now required to use it for so much pertaining to our schoolwork.
Each year more and more technology makes its way into our classrooms and is used more regularly in our every day classroom livess. (started with teacher and student computers, moving on to more advanced projectors hooked up to our teacher’s computers.
