Intel’s safe, protective, teacher-oriented education tablet?

I received an email from a publicist today asking me if I was interested in talking with someone from Intel about its new education tablet. Here is my response:

I’m not interested, thank you, because of this sentence:

This month, Intel introduces a new 10-inch education tablet reference design with Intel Education Software created to help keep students safe, help teachers teach and protect school districts’ technology investments

Nothing there about powerful student learning. Just keeping kids ‘safe,’ protecting districts’ ‘investments,’ and maintaining teacher-directed (rather than student-empowering) learning environments. I’ll pass.

  1. Awesome reply! Thanks for fighting the good fight.

  2. New to your blog. What would the harm have been by asking those questions directly to Intel and not the publisher?

    • Thanks for the friendly pushback, Christopher.

To answer your question, none, probably. I confess I didn’t even think of it, perhaps because my conversation with someone from Amplify at ISTE on this very topic wasn’t very fruitful.

I appreciate the reminder to give even corporations and publicists the chance to give voice to their side of the story. Even when I don’t think it will bear fruit.
