<description>I make it a habit to go into the offices of my administrators once a week to share something cool, have them watch a video, have them read a passage, pass along a quote, or just let them in on some interesting tech tid-bits. They feel like they are kept in the loop and

Because of these conversations, they now both:

- have their own blogs
- have the new ipod Nano&#039;s and subscribe to podcasts
- have this along with other blogs in their RSS readers
- feel supported to ask any tech questions because they know where they can find answers
- are asking tough questions of staff who fail to embrace technology
- practice what they preach
- &quot; GET IT!&quot;

All of this because of small, frequent conversations and a technology coordinator who has tons of energy :)

It all adds up.

HOWEVER.............

This would not have been possible if they had not:

- been open to new ideas
- had a open door policy to conversation and debate
- been so approachable
- both been REAL life long learners
- both been PASSIONATE about learning
- both been FUN!

<description>I really enjoyed this post and agree with Justin&#039;s comments. I think the same applies to getting teachers on board with tech initiatives as well. We have been working towards personally introducing our teachers to iGoogle. The rationale is that if they have an understanding of how iGoogle works, it will be easier to introduce topics such as RSS within the context of iGoogle and hopefully not as overwhelming. The key to this being effective though, has been sitting down with teachers to show them how it can work for them. The face to face seems to be integral to getting the process started.

<description>Turns out these are pretty functional pick-up lines too! I tried out #4 yesterday and now I&#039;ve got a date with that cute science teacher.

Thanks, Scott!

<description>This post is dangerously relevant. I started the conversation with my Principal about wiki&#039;s. I explained the power of publishing/editing in a 1:1 meeting with her at the beginning of the year. However, she has not mustered up the energy to include herself in the mix. I plan to meet again about RSS in the near future. All I can do is keep exposing her to the ideas and showing her the ropes.

Group presentations don&#039;t work. We need to get the administrators passionate about online learning communities before the rest of the faculty will take it seriously.

<description>Why is it that we can understand that we shouldn&#039;t firehose anyone, and yet we go and do it to some of the most capable people we know, and then we wonder why they don&#039;t listen!?!

Excellent lesson, Scott. It&#039;s on it&#039;s way to becoming a pdf and going into practice.

Thanks! :)

<description>Justin, thanks for sharing your experiences.

Woody, how did you try to sell your principal on wikis? In other words, how did you frame your pitch to make wikis useful to her work, not that of others?

Everyone else, thanks for the supportive (and funny) comments!

<description>Added it to Moving Forward. Like Justin, I have regular twice a month meetings with my administrators. I hope to have a story about Jott to share soon.

<description>Okay, I was sick for two days, but what a day back at work. I hit a two-run homer, and then an out of the parker with the bases loaded.

1. Admin wanted a YouTube (blocked) video for staff meeting tomorrow. Introduced him to Zamzar.

2. Then, I introduced Jott, which will hopefully solve a myriad of demands created by RTI. Here&#039;s the slide show for my case study: http://www.slideshare.net/mizmercer/jott

Talk about wow moments.

		<description>Scott,

Your timing on this post was great--I used it for a workshop I did this past week on how librarians could help their administrators with web 2.0 tools. I already had included your blog(and CASTLE), but what a find when I clicked on it, and here were your excellent examples all ready for my workshop :)

Thanks for the inspiring examples!
Carolyn
