I appreciate the insight - you're right that it's difficult to know where we are heading if we don't have a map to get us there. The definition of "technology integration" has to be tied down before we can accomplish it.

My own advisor mentioned the same idea with "constructivism" at a doctoral seminar last week. He challenged everyone to consider what we mean when we claim to be constructivists. There are teachers at my K-8 school who think that constructivism might be the death of society as we know it, whereas I think that we're really separated more by semantics than by our actual pedagogy.

Does your advisee plan to publish any of her findings? I'd be interested to find more.

Thanks, Rich, and I agree with you entirely. In fact, I had another doc. student who set out to do a synthesis of the literature on the relationship between constructivism and student achievement. What she discovered was that across the empirical research, definitions of constructivism (where they existed) were varied and mostly vague. It's interesting that people are studying something that they can't or don't bother to define or explain.

Anyway, the tech. integration study should be done within this academic year. At that point, the dissertation becomes available through various dissertation-related databases. And, if all goes well, there should be some articles in professional and peer-reviewed journals that come from the study.
